About Kiwanis

The Kiwanis Club began in 1915 when a group of businessmen in Detroit, Michigan, formed a club for fellowship and fraternity. Soon, a higher purpose for their organization emerged when they realized that their group could be a powerful tool for service within their community. After achieving some great successes locally, they began to multiply their efforts by spreading their organization to other communities, focusing on the intellectual development of children and young adults. Today, Kiwanis is an international service organization with over 600,000 members in 80 countries.

The Idaho Falls Kiwanis Club was formed in 1921, with an initial roster of 50 members. Since then, the club has met weekly – almost without interruption – for over 88 years! Today, we have grown from those 50 members to a very large and beneficial organization that helps to cultivate the minds of youth across Idaho.

Through the years, Kiwanis has made great contributions to our community. We sponsor Key Clubs both at Idaho Falls and Bonneville High Schools. We give out the annual Hope of America Award to outstanding sixth grade students, and we serve the Head Starts with the Reading is Fundamental Program. We were a key partner in the recently completed Equal Access Playground.
